| Orange County Black Chamber Gala to Celebrate the Dedication of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC
The Black Chamber of Orange County’s historical themed gala reception will feature “Educating the Dream” and celebrate the dedication and unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Monument on the Mall in Washington, DC. On Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the City National Grove of Anaheim at 5:30pm.
We will be celebrating a monumental year for the nation and the world as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial will rise on the National Mall in Washington DC. It will be officially dedicated by President Barrack Obama and turned over to the US Department of the Interior and the National Park Service by the Washington DC Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Foundation.
We will highlight the Task Force that led the way for the State of California and the County of Orange becoming the initial ones to make Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday a national, state and local holiday in the US.
We will celebrate and acknowledge various educational, business, Green and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) students and businesses.
In the true spirit of Dr. King, we will recognize the multicultural contributions and advancements throughout the program, especially economic empowerment and education.
We will celebrate the 125 th Anniversary of Southern California Edison as they receive our 2011 Corporation of the Year Award, along with Mr. Ed Grier , Virginia Commonwealth University , Dean of the School of Business and former President of Disneyland, who will receive the 2011 Michael R. Jones Business Impact Award; Mr. Jeffrey Stetson, who is an internationally acclaimed award-winning playwright and screenwriter for film and television and the author of “The Meeting”, who will receive the 2011 Community Leadership Award andMs. Enae Jackson-Atkins, Independent Business Consultant, who will receive the 2011 Business Person of the Year Award.
We will feature our Black Chamber Education Fund Bricks and Bridges Students.
We will showcase, during our “Black History Reception’,
several sections with Green, Veteran/Military, Science and Business and Health displays.
